Marlon Saria, PhD, RN

Marlon Garzo Saria, PhD, RN, AOCNS, FAAN, is an advanced practice nurse researcher at Saint John’s Cancer Institute at Providence Saint John’s Health Center. He also leads the quality and outcomes research efforts in the department of translational neuro-oncology and neurotherapeutics chaired by Dr. Santosh Kesari.

Dr. Saria currently serves in the U.S. Air Force Reserve Nurse Corps as a Flight Commander for nursing operations and co-officer-in-charge for awards and decorations and the centralized credentials quality assurance system. He was an associate editor for the evidence-based practice column of the Clinical Journal of Oncology Nursing and is a section editor for the 5th edition of the Core Curriculum for Oncology Nursing. He was also the editor for the 2nd and 3rd editions of the Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Scenarios published by the Oncology Nursing Society. Dr. Saria served as secretary of the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) and is actively involved in other professional and civic organizations including the International Society of Nurses in Cancer Care, Philippine Nurses Association of America, San Diego Brain Tumor Foundation, San Diego Filipino-American Humanitarian Foundation, and the Filipino-American Community Empowerment.

Dr. Saria has given a number of national and international presentations. His international affiliations include academic appointments as faculty-in-charge of the oncology course at the Faculty of Management and Development Studies at the University of the Philippines (UP) Open University and visiting research scholar at Chiba University in Japan. He received the Pearl Moore Award from ONS, the Distinguished Alumni Award from the UP, and a doctoral fellowship award from the American Cancer Society. In 2014, he was inducted as a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing and most recently, was honored with a lifetime achievement award by the Global Caring Nurses Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Scottsdale, Arizona.
