Neil A. Martin, MD, is a recognized world leader in neurosurgical and neuroscience innovation and quality. He has been affiliated with Pacific Neuroscience Institute® (PNI) and Providence Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, CA since 2020. Currently, Dr. Martin serves on the PNI Foundation Board and is a consultant for PNI Medical Group.
Dr. Martin’s neurosurgical practice at PNI focuses on patients with aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations, facial pain syndromes such as trigeminal neuralgia, and skull base tumors. Dr. Martin is considered one of the leading skull base and neurovascular neurosurgeons in the U.S., having trained countless residents and fellows, overseen numerous clinical trials and NIH grants, and authored almost 300 peer-reviewed publications. From a healthcare administrative perspective, throughout his career, he has focused on neuroscience innovation, quality of care, efficiency and reducing costs.
Dr. Martin has been a leader in neuroscience for decades including a 30-year experience at UCLA, and serving as Department of Neurosurgery Chair from 2008-2016. He then served as Chair of Geisinger Neuroscience Institute in Pennsylvania from 2016 to 2020. At Geisinger, Dr. Martin had many accomplishments benefiting the 12-hospital system, including developing two new comprehensive stroke centers and deploying a regional telestroke and teleneurology network. He joined PNI in 2020 and served as Regional Medical Director of Neuroscience for Providence Southern California from 2020-2024 and interim director of Saint John’s Cancer Institute from 2022-20224.
Currently as a PNI affiliated physician Dr. Martin continues to provide patient consultations, support innovation in the neurosciences, supports neurosurgical fellowship training and mentoring, helps with recruitment of new PNI faculty and assists in PNI Foundation fundraising efforts.
